What we paint

Painting services

One room or the whole house? We look at the surfaces, talk colors and sheen, and give you a written quote.

The Brooklyn Painting Company paints homes and businesses across the borough. We work in brownstones and brick row houses, wood-frame houses, prewar co-ops, condos, rentals, shops and offices. Our jobs run from one bedroom to a whole house, inside and out, and include cabinets, decks, fences, plaster and drywall repair, wallpaper removal and washing. We serve Park Slope, Williamsburg, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Bay Ridge, Brooklyn Heights, Bushwick, Crown Heights, Flatbush, Greenpoint, Carroll Gardens, Sheepshead Bay, Bensonhurst and the neighborhoods between them. We are licensed and insured.

Painting here is shaped by old buildings and four real seasons. Indoors that means plaster walls, tall ceilings and trim under many earlier coats, so repair and priming come before color. Most homes were built before 1978, so lead-safe methods are part of the routine. Outdoors, winter freezing, summer humidity, steady rain and salt air near the shore wear at cornices, window frames, siding and ironwork. We paint interiors all year and exteriors in the warmer months, when surfaces can dry.

A job begins with a free visit. We look at the surfaces, ask about your building's rules and send a written quote that says what is included, how many coats and what repairs are allowed for. On the agreed day we protect floors and furniture, do the prep, then paint. We tidy up at the end of each day. When the work is finished we walk through it with you and fix anything on the list. Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to paint a room in Brooklyn?

By national figures published by HomeGuide for 2026, painting one room costs $300 to $1,000 on average. Those are not our quotes. Ceiling height, plaster repairs, trim and access set your price, and we give it in writing after a free estimate.

Do painters need a license in New York City?

Yes. Home improvement work over $200 on a residential building needs a Home Improvement Contractor license from the city's Department of Consumer and Worker Protection. The Brooklyn Painting Company is licensed and insured.

Do I need a permit to paint my house in Brooklyn?

No. The Department of Buildings lists painting among the work that needs no permit. On a landmark building or in a historic district, changing the exterior color needs a Landmarks Preservation Commission permit first.

My building is old. What about lead paint?

Assume it is there in any home built before 1978. Paid work that disturbs old paint must follow the federal EPA lead-safe rule, and New York City's Local Law 1 adds duties for landlords. Our lead paint page explains both.

When can you paint outside in Brooklyn?

Roughly May through October. Exterior paint needs a dry wall and mild air for hours after it goes on. Interior painting is done all year.

How long does a paint job take?

Most interior rooms take one to two days. A full exterior usually takes three to five days, depending on weather.
